Location:  Charlotte NC Data Center - Southern Pine Blvd  

Scope of Position: This position will manage a team of senior engineers focused on providing world-class service for complex customer environments in managed services.  The supervisor is expected to be a player/coach, be able to both perform service delivery tasks and train others on how to perform those tasks.  The supervisor will also be responsible for performance management, work schedule definition and budget management as defined by the Manager, Complex Services Delivery.  The ideal candidate will have an extensive, hands-on background with various systems technologies and experience leading or managing a small team of engineers.

 

·         Develop and install cost effective, operationally supportable solutions that meet complex customer requirements and SLAs.  

·         Maintain deep technical knowledge of multiple technologies within a customer’s environment.  

·         Provide direct operational support of SunGard’s largest managed services customers, maintaining ownership and a deep technical knowledge.

·         Deliver end of the road support for complex environments.  

·         Provide clear technical documentation and written ISO9001 procedures to ensure other members of SunGard delivery can assist in monitoring, troubleshooting and changing complex customer environments.

·         Responsible for direct customer communication, working closely with other central operations technical teams and customer service teams.

·         Build and maintain relationships with key customer’s technical staff members and with internal stakeholders from customer service and field operations.

·         Provide technical assistance to all SunGard internal/external customers during environment outages.

·         Have a familiarity environment resources being utilized by SunGard customers. Use this information to assist in resolving environment issues or trouble shooting impairments.

·         Provide assistance/training and leadership to other engineers.

·         Perform weekly and monthly maintenance activity when required.

·         Provide assistance/training and leadership to other engineers.

 

Provide world-class customer support and technical expertise for SunGard customers.

·         Provide direct operational support of SunGard’s largest managed services customers, maintaining ownership and a deep technical knowledge.

·         Perform after-hours support as needed.

 

Supervisory activity

·         Complete staff performance reviews

·         Maintain team on-call and work schedules

·         Collect and publish KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)

·         Maintain ticketing and alert queues

·         Execute new-hire onboarding processes

·         Assist team management in new-hire vetting

 

 

Implement technical solutions for Sungard customers.

·         Develop and install cost effective, operationally supportable solutions that meet complex customer requirements and SLAs.  

§         Provide clear technical documentation and written ISO9001 procedures to ensure other members of SunGard delivery can assist in monitoring, troubleshooting and changing complex customer environments.

 

Training

§         Learn automated Sungard resource functions and terminology.

§         Learn Sungard alert management platforms, functions, and terminology.

§         Learn related SunGard product offerings.

§         Become proficient with the latest OS technologies.

§         Provide assistance/training to other engineers.

 

 

Requirements:

·         College Degree preferred but will consider applicants with equivalent work-related experience with a minimum educational requirement of a H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent.

·         Seven or more years industry experience in a Unix/Linux or Windows systems administration role, with substantial end-user or customer support interaction.

·         A work history of leading technical teams.  This could include prior managerial positions, project team-based work, mentoring and training new staff.

 

Experience with:

·         Scripting skills.  Must be able to create scaleable management solutions for an enterprise level hosting service (500+ hosts under management)

·         Sound understanding of hardware fundamentals.  Able to make specific hardware recommendations based on I/O bound, memory bound, or processor bound applications

·         Able to troubleshoot and provide resolution for servers with performance issues

·         Extensive problem-solving skills for debugging OS, application, and server related network issues

·         Enterprise level storage (Array/SAN) and tape backup platforms

·         Able to create end to end system monitoring and reporting solutions using performance monitor, SNMP and or by integrating third party products

 

Other requirements:

·         Extensive knowledge of data communication concepts and technologies is required

·         Strong customer service and communications skills (written and oral) are required

·         Strong problem isolation and resolutions skills required

·         Must have the ability to lead and direct vendors to assist them in their efforts

·         Strong interpersonal skills are a requirement

·         Adaptable and willing to learn new technologies

·         Strong time management and organizational skill are required

·         Must have the ability to effectively work in a team environment, as well as independently

 

Preferred Requirements:

·         Bachelor of Science, or equivalent experience.

If I wanted to move to Charlotte... guys, if you quality, SunGuard is a quality company. (I manage some servers in their Atlanta datacenter)
