yesterday morning my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. we have gotten the biopsy back and it is confirmed she will need surgery combined with radiation and possibly chemotherapy.
at first we wanted to keep this close to our chest and only tell a select few however, we decided it was best that we make a post cause everyone at shadowmoor is close to her.

we all care about her very much and im sure we will all be there to support her.
we will post more info as we learn it. Good luck mom.

P.S. mom says she will keep the tavern up and running as much as she can

Don't worry about the Tavern. Her health comes first. Will keep her in my thoughts and hope for the best.

I agree with Jay, her health comes first. She will be in my prayers for a full recovery.

My step-father is currently undergoing radiation and chemotherapy for throat cancer (never smoked in his life, by the way). He has already had the necessary surgery...at this point, he is doing well, so I have every confidence that your mom will be just fine.

That said, I'll keep her in mind...if you guys need anything, even if it's just to talk don't hesitate to ask/talk.

She'll be in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy and full recovery, fer sure <3 And health becomes before the tavern, and shadowmoor, definitely.

The good news is it was found very early,  the lumps are small and the doctors are jumping on this quickly!  The folks at Presby are amazing thus far!  She has so much support and programs avalible to her at no cost.

the surgery will be within a month or less and it will be a lumpectomy (sp); an out paitiant procedure.

Let every one be upbeat and supportive...  even though this is seriouse news.  Also please NO horror stories!

Like J said, we will post more as we get it.   We will make cancer our bitch!!

Nancy has Stage 1 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma.  Ductal Carcinoma is the most commonly diagnosed breast cancer.  She only has 1 (ONE) tumor in 1 of her breast and it is about .8 CM, that is smaller than a dime.    She is going to have a breast-conserving lumpectomy (SAVE THE TATAS!) to remove the tumor and the surrounding tissue.  They will also remove 3-5 lymph nodes closest to the breast from under her arm during the surgery, which will be sent to pathology at that time to see if the cancer may have spread to the lymph system.  IF it has spread, at that time they would remove the lymph node cluster under her arm.  If NOT, they will leave her lymph node system intact.

The surgery will be an out patient surgery unless there is a lymph node issue and they would keep her overnight.  Also please remember Nancy is a diabetic so her healing process may be hindered a little bit so don't freak out if they keep her for a day or two afterward.  Fingers crossed we can get her sugar under control before her surgery.

Afterward Nancy will be treated with radiation therapy to help ensure there are no sneaky cancer cells hanging out in her boob.  There is a chance for chemotherapy if the "HER2-NEU" test comes back positive and/or there is cancer in the lymph nodes.  We do not know if she will need chemotherapy at this time but will update you when we do.

There are a few things you need to understand:

   1. This is NOT a death sentence!  This has been caught ridiculously early.  So think positive thoughts!  We are going to make cancer our bitch!!
   2. PLEASE do not call or email cancer horror stories, honestly we do not want to hear them.  Just keep the negative ju-ju away from us!
   3. Most importantly - Be patient with Nancy!  This is a lot to take in for any person.  She is still in shock a little and doesn't want to talk about it right now.  If she wants to talk about it, she will, until then respect her wishes and don't push her.

Lots of love to Miss Nancy!  We WILL make this our b*%@h!  My mom had almost the same type of cancer diagnosed in 1997, and she's been cancer-free after 1998!

I have zero doubt this will get licked, beaten, taken down, tarred and feathered (hot!), struck down, whomped, whooped, taken out back, wrapped up, mopped, finished, strapped, clobbered, kneed in the jimmy, and any other euphemism you can come up with for utterly defeated.

Please allow me to show a little of my southern roots here: "Nancy shall rise again!" Except, she was never down, so she'll just stand a little taller. Which is already mighty tall in my book.

PS: We love ya, Miss Nancy - I can honestly not think of a single human being that Shadowmoor has ever held in as much love and regard as you. You'll do fine. We believe in you, and stand by you.
