hey everyone! I had posted a while back on here, but I can't remember the username, password, much less anything if it was for the life of me.

I'm a newbie to SOLAR/Shadowmoor, but I've been playing Nero for about a year now, and once ran an mini-larp called Village of Aisu. I'm looking into play Shadowmoor some- it looks like a fun game!

I have a couple of questions though. My first question is, where usually are the sites? IE, what city/state? Also, do they usually run the typical Friday night-Sunday morning kind of deal?
My next question regards race and class. I had asked a while about being a Sylvani, as long as I get into the full costume and take a picture, hopefully getting it approved by plot. I love playing makeup races, they're a lot of fun because you look so different than otherwise!
I have a question though. I was reading through the rulebook, and I realized that all the makeup races are restricted. Therefore, are they restricted because of the costuming, or is it the character backgrounds/etc? (Such as, in Nero, Dark Elves are restricted because they have a 130-page character packet that basically needs to be memorized....) If it's just costuming, I may try to play a makeup race, whether Sylvani or something else, but otherwise, obviously I'm not going to push it as a newbie. That would just be rude.

Also, how many build points do you start out with? And I was reading around the forums and saw something about getting gobs for bringing a friend, is that true? If so, how many?

My last question ^^ Are latex weapons allowed? Or just the typical foam + pvc? -prays- pleasebelatexpleasebelatexpleasebelatex...

I can try to answer a few of these question for ya. (I have no clue on the Sylvani stuff or the build points so I'll let others handle that)

The campsites are either Camp York or Camp Cherokee at Kings Mountain State Park in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. They're usually Friday night to Sunday afternoonish from what I can tell. Also, last I heard latex weapons aren't allowed :\ sorry.

Smoor is awesome and you should definitely come try it out. First event is free...

I can help with a couple of answers for you.

As far as the build goes, you either start with 35 or 40 build, depending on if you play an Amrothian native character or not. The races can be found in the player guide supplement.

Gob for bringing new players, last I checked is 50 gob per new player, and 50 more if they play more than a year.

For weapons, latex weapons are not allowed. Mostly because of the safety issues with them. They swing alot faster and hit alot harder. We use pvc pipe and foam. Although I check the weapons, there are others that make the weapons. I believe there is a post about the scheduling and depth of the foam and pipe.

For any one to play a restricted race, you need to talk to the Head of Plot, which if I am not mistaken is David Bear Carson for next year.

Some races are restricted just because of make up requirements (Sylvani) and others are restricted because of the deep history of the race (Unseelie).

Thanks everyone! Well, for the first event or two, I might have to end up borrowing a sword then until I can get my own ALL I have are Latex weapons. -sigh-

Oh well. I might end up playing a Barbarian, actually ^^ I was originally going to play this one character at Nero, but I guess I could always just play her here at Smoor

You get 25 Gob for bringing a new player, 50 gob if they play for 2 additional events.

Opening Ceremonies is at 10:30 PM Friday night, with In-Play starting at 11:30 (Assuming all cars are moved in time.)

Sylvani are restricted due mainly to costuming. If you can show me good costuming and ability to RP, I will allow you to start as one. Please note that you must get approval to play a restricted race before showing up at site.

PM me with pictures and charcter concept and we'll discuss it.

Thanks (: According to my post above, I've actually decided to play a Barbarian instead. I've had this character idea for Nero for a really long time, and I think I might play her at Shadowmoor instead.
Are Barbarians restricted, however? I don't think I saw anything that specifically says whether they are or not.

no barbarians are not restricted. my first character was a barbarian
