So when there's no game and/or I can't afford to go to game, I sit around and think of Character Generation. Constantly. And thusly the question occurred to me, what are the rules for Half-Breeds in Solar?

From what I remember, you have to pick one or the other of your halves for stats, and fulfil all the makeup requirements for that race...the half-and-half status is more for roleplay purposes.

Very cool.. I was just actually pondering over this myself and wondering if the game allowed for half-vampire characters (no stat bonuses for being a vamp.. just RP purposes)

Undead in Solar can't reproduce, so you can't be "half-undead". However you can have an undead as your father as part of your character history, he either had you when he was still alive or something a little more weird happened.  (Like he made you whole clothe, because he's just that powerful)

As far as more normal half breeds, Ava's got it. One race is always dominant when mixing and those are the base racial stats and makeup requirements you'll have, though I believe you can have elements of your other race present in your makeup, just as long as it's obvious what your base race is.

On that same note, you should prob be careful with how you mix your races.  If you decide to go half gnome and half orc with blue face paint, tusks, and a cool hat then people may think you're an ogre mage with a hat.  Not that you couldn't do that, its just something you may want to keep in mind.

He would be either green with tusks or grey with hat. Not both (although anybody can wear a hat).

Actually I am pretty sure you can't do that.  You need to be obviously one race or another, and you can't look like an already existing race. One race is far more dominant than the other. So if your a half orc plus gnome, then you either do normal half orc makeup or normal gnome makeup. You can then add other features, such as if your a base half orc, you wear a gnome hat, or if your base gnome you wear a tusk.

Realize that being a "half breed" is mostly a roleplaying thing, (with the exception of half orc and half ogre), you are for all rules purposes only one race. That includes the rules about your makeup.

I'm sure Keith will pitch in if Im wrong about anything.

edit:
Jay beat me to it.

Kind of a big deal.

You will only EVER do one race's make-up, no "features" of the second race. Although, to be fair...anyone CAN wear a hat (to stick with the examples  given above).

I know someone who, years ago, did get special permission to do what was essentially an elf with faint catlike markings(hint of spots, etc) as a surface elf/sarr hybrid...but as far as I know that was an isolated case, and Scott had to give special permission(and I'm pretty sure the PC in question wound up never being played).
