Shadowmoor is pleased to announce that this season, we will be having two ongoing contests year-round. Each event, prizes will be awarded for BEST COSTUMING AND MAKEUP, as well as for BEST IN PLAY AREA. Having good costuming and makeup adds a lot to the look and feel of the game for not just yourself, but everyone you interact with. Having areas, be they cabins, lodges, guilds, fairy circles out in the woods, what have you, that LOOK like they're a part of our fantasy world add to the realism of the game. It's much easier to keep it entirely in play, to think, feel, and react as our characters, when what we see around us more closely matches what our characters should see. To encourage people to add to the already great look the game has going, we'll be rewarding people who go above and beyond!

BEST COSTUMING AND MAKEUP:
To qualify for this contest, all you have to do is show up looking good :-) Making sure your makeup is flawless, if you play a makeup race, and that your costuming and armor is both in-period and appropriate to the culture of your character is really the difference between full immersion and feeling like you're at a bad ren-faire. We've all seen the pictures of the European LARPs where everyone looks like they just stepped off a movie set. While we can't all achieve that look every Gather, we can strive to get as close as possible. This contest will be judged based on costuming and makeup, judges will be watching all weekend, no signing up will be required. This contest will be won by a single individual every gather, barring exception ((Like if you make your entire group super snazzy epically awesome matching outfits and full suits of armor and you're all full makeup trolls while you're at it? Ok maybe we'll think about a group prize to split))

BEST IN PLAY AREA:
This contest will apply to ANY in play area, be it cabin, Grove, nonexistent necro circles hidden in the woods, magic fairy circles, underwater tea parties, lodges, guild buildings, really ANY area that can be made to look more in play. Having areas that really look like they're part of the in-game world makes it a lot easier to feel fully immersed and in play in them. It makes the world feel more real. To qualify for this contest, if it isn't an obviously viewable area like the HG or the center of town, let me know, and I'll drop by with a camera to take pictures of the area in question. If you're uncomfortable having your sooper seekrit evil spot publically named, I won't even announce that you won, it'll just be "In play area contest won by: super secret league of fluffy pink unicorns" or some such. This prize can be won by groups or individuals, and splitting of the prize will be the responsibility of the group, I'm ten kinds of staying out of that one :-)
