Page 129, Death Gas..  Death Gas & Death ingested have been renamed "Agony Gas" and "Agony" ingested.  Otherwise, works the same.

Yeah, yeah, more syllables, but it will eliminate the confusion as to what it does.

Players should pay attention, however now maybe we'll get some decent agony out of the gas, real mood killer having to explain everytime that they are supposed to writhe in pain instead of drop dead.

Just to clarify, can you actually flub a physical item? I understand how flubbing a verbal with a spell would make it fizzle, but how can one flub throwing a vial at someone? Other than for identification of effect, does a gases name have anything behind it when you throw it? The issue has come up several times, but I haven't heard a plot/The Hudge ruling on it.

No, you can't flub vials - sort of. If you get it *wrong* it's bad juju: don't say paralyze gas when you throw a sleep gas. Wilfully doing so is cheating. If, for some bizarre reason, you can't clearly state "agony gas" or "10 acid" and your target doesn't understand you, you need to go to speech class, stop chewing gum while in combat, or don't fight with your mouth full; however, work it out with your intended opponent.

Keith -- what about "pre-casting" with gasses?

Aka, throwing the packet before completing the "verbal" (even though its not a spell verbal).

Entirely depends on the situation. I'll remind you and everyone else that players are encouraged to make sure that their targets can hear what's hitting them.

I am assuming you're referring to being sneaky. You have three seconds from throwing the vial to speaking the effect, before or after. The target must know what's hitting them. I know it breaks a bit of the sneaky benefit, but it's just too hard to marshal the differences and leaves things way too open to abuse.

agony gas sounds cooler, but death gas is simple, and easier when you're throwing one after another, and don't wanna get your tongue twisted. Tongue

It's also a half-second takedown, compared to a second-to-second-and-a-half for most spells. Agony Gas is also a little bit easier to pronounce, with the back-and-forth motion of the tongue - especially in quick succession. Going from the "sss" sound of the word "Gas" to the "d" sound of "Death" is more difficult than from the "sss" to the "aaa" of "Agony."

Cosstoogassagoneegass. The only double-consonant there is the "st" pair, which is just a tongue thrust.

I was actually refering to the "say the verbal THEN throw the packt rule"...just confirming that it applied to gasses as well. Ex: "cause 2 gas" *throw packet* "sleep gas" *throw packet*

Keith's explanation boils down to: There's not verbal-then-packet rule for gasses, thrown weapons, etc. You've got three seconds in either direction to say it.

Stephen's right. By my reading of the rulebook, there's no defined time to say anything about your vials when you throw them. So, I'm applying the three-second rule for spells to it as a rule of thumb.  The target should know what hit them if you're playing by both the spirit and letter of the rules.
