newbie questions :)

Hi! I’m not sure if I introduced myself yet on here...hm, I think I did. But, I’m the little 15-year old who will also be bringing my dad (who is really awkward sometimes. If you don’t understand what he’s talking about...just smile and nod). We’ll be playing Barbarians from the same tribe

Anyways, I had a couple of newbie questions. Ok, a lot of questions, lol. First of all, what time do you recommend we should get there? Is there any chance of Shadowmoor overcrowding and not having enough beds?

My other question is, what is the “stealing” policy at Shadowmoor? Is it possible to have in-game stuff legally stolen from the cabins, such as little trinkets or decorations like house banners and things like that?

And next question... Where is check-in/check-out?

Last question is, I feel like I read somewhere that first-time players get in free. Is that true?

Answering in order of the asking:

-The earliest you can arrive is 2pm, for first-eventers, I'd suggest getting there while there is still some light so you can get an idea of what the site looks like (and how to find your cabin)

-In-Play items may be stolen, this generally means only items with IP value (gold, potions, magic weapons, etc.). In your cabin notes (which Casey will go over at the newbie safety course), you can designate areas as Out-of-Play, this is ideal for your real-world clothes and snacks/water/etc. As far as decorations and stuff go, occasionally those get "taken" to prove a point (if you really ticked off a certain group or something) --- in this situation you can tell them that it has no IP value and they will either leave it alone or return it ASAP.

-Check-in is in the tavern (largest building in the center of site) -- Becca will be there with a laptop and a line of people, hard to miss. Check-out is also in the tavern, there is a plastic box with pens/envelopes so you can turn in your required tags.

--Yes, first-event players play for free. HOWEVER, you should bring cash for food (Nancy runs the best tavern I've seen in my 11+ years of SOLAR) and any costuming/weapons/etc. you may want to buy (although you can get loaner MT weapons during your first event)

Oh ok! Thanks so much!! I think we’ll most likely get there around 7, hopefully it’ll give us time to unpack and meet some people before the event. The pre-game meeting starts at around 10, right?
Can’t wait until the event, it’s going to be a lot of fun! I’ve heard both positive and negative things about Shadowmoor, but hopefully it’ll be awesome!

Can’t wait to finally break out our epic Barbar costumes ^^

7pm is a goo time to get there. Thats when I have been getting there. And this month at 7 there will still be a little sun light left for you to see.

Actually I think there have been a couple of female barbarians, although I have not seen the player in awhile.

I love barbarians.   Once you get past the smell, they are awesome.   Still miss Adarock.  Don't miss his barrow wright though.

There is a really helpful new players guide located right here on the forums. Take some time to read it and many of your questions should be answered, I'm not saying we mind answering them at all. Just saying Remmi and others have done such a good job with the new players guide it is definitely worth a read.

If you have questions once you arrive at site, come to the kitchen and will try our best to help you. 

The tavern is open from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. with a small break around 5:00 p.m. to prepare dinner. 

Dinner is sliced roast beef or baked chicken quarter, choice of two vegetables (macaroni & cheese, mashed potatoes, pasta salad, crab salad and this event steamed mixed vegetables), yeast roll, and a mini dessert for $7.00.  We also have a full breakfast and lunch items.
