http://www.facebook.com/knightsofbadassdomThat looks funny but I have no doubt that once again that my favorite hobby shall be painted as "not cool." My buddy Mike still remembers the day that I realized that D&D "wasn't cool" (in the traditional sense) ... It was a shocker... I honestly had NO idea that one of my favorite things to do was considered "geeky" or "nerdy". I didn't care then... and I care not now. But if it wasn't for "Role models"... I'd never found 'Smoor.

I've heard that too, and the Tosh.0 references happen a lot as well xD They showed a guy shouting lightning bolt.. and I laughed.. because it's true. And I thought back to dodging packets in the dark, hearing lightning and fire thrown at me and I giggled, but remembered how terrified I was

I think the biggest misunderstanding is that LARP doesn't have just simple mechanics where you just act it out and can do whatever, but there are actual rules and mechanics. My friends constantly joke wanting to be a robot from the future that used time travel to go back in time. I only sigh and shake my head.

On-topic, though, this movie will be awesome. Period.

I kinda liked Role Models. It actually gave a pretty good picture of LARP. Silly, nerdy, and a heck of a lotta fun. Hopefully this one will do the same!

Agreed, Becca. Role Models did a GREAT job at making light of our stereotypes and at the same time casting a positive light on the hobby.
A HUGE part of that success is the fact that (if you watch the credits) they actually used a LOT of now "famous" larp organizations and "figureheads" as references, extras, etc.
From what I've read, "Knights" has tapped the Amtgard chapters local to their shooting locations for a lot of their extras in the movie, which again, is VERY awesome.

Has anyone head when this epic movie is going to release; because Novarius DarkShade will be there in costume. Also if the theatre will allow it I will be in the lobby passing out fliers about our game. Of course if that is okay with Mr./Mrs. Hudgins Trey

one of the local amtgard chapters used to do that here. Every movie that was event remotely fantasy/medieval genre... they'd be there in costume handing out fliers etc (after securing permission from the theatre of course)

I think that's a great idea! And having a small battle outside, or some minor sparring, and letting people try it out of course. ^^

The battle and sparring would likely not fly as the movie theater probably doesn't want to be held liable for someone doing something stupid. And yes, if they don't break up the demonstration, they are assumed to give consent and are held liable.
