Announcing Fighter Practice this Sunday at Rankin Lake Park in Gastonia N.C. We will be starting at 10 AM STG(standard gamer time) and running until the last people decide they want to leave. It is open to anyone who wants to come and participate or just hang out/chill with your friends. Please bring water or sports drinks as it will be hot and if you pass out, we have to rush you to the hospital and it ruins our fun. Then we will be forced to tell Beccah and nobody wants that lol. Seriously guys it is going to be hot. So stay hydrated, take breaks and don't over do it. So come on out, bring a good attitude and let's have some fun. There will  be some experienced fighters there and this is a great opportunity for newish players to really learn something:)

for those who decide to attend said fighter practice, gatorade dehydrates you because of the salt that is in said drink. therefore, i would highly recommend drinking water, and bunches of it. in fact, you should be peeing at least every hour.

thanks,

Huh.  I thought the purpose behind gatorade-type drinks was to replace the electrolytes you lost from sweating?  Or am I thinking of a different type of sports drink?

Various trainings I've had from summer camp staff and such always told us that Gatorade is good for REhydrating, but is dangerous for PREhydrating.

...that being said, RT's forgotten more about medicine then I'll ever know, so, er, yeah... <_<

as the slogan says.....

to REPLENISH lost electrolytes from activity

drink water first, also there is some new gatorade system, 1,2,3.  The 1 is a prehydrator but I haven't tried it, so I can't tell you what it does for sure.

salts, aka electrolytes, only get burned with strenuous physical activity. Just standing around sweating buckets doesn't do that much, so definitely water, water, water. If you like the Gatorade flavor, cut it down with water.

water is awesome, when burning energy-I ran for nearly an hour today and I brought water with me, instead of my delicious crystal light. But, when you're thirsty, or hungry, anything tastes amazing. Cheesy

I feel the need to reply to this one as a medical condition requires me to be aware of the need of both water and electrolytes when performing any activiy that causes the loss of either. This almost got me in deep trouble working in the Navy doe to the hot nature of the place I worked: a steam plant.

Working there was typically not too physically strenuous but just the heat and subsequequent sweating causes loss of water and electrolytes. In order to sweat your body must have the proper balance of water ane electrolytes. Get one out of wack and heat strees is on the way. Each person must learn to judge their hydreation needs induvidually but should be aware that they should drink pleny of water and when needed also replenish electrolytes, or the water will not do you a bit of good.

If your electrolytes get too low your body will not process or use a majority of the water you drink which must be utilized in sweat to regulate your core temp to be effective. Yes you pee it out but in this condidtion you just pee all of it out. This in extreme cases can also cause the body to be uable of properly transmit electrical signals to regulate heart beat and blood pressure. My esperices was that since I did not know or replenish my electrolytes often enough for how fast I personally sweat them out I would have heart palpitations shakes and even feint. The doctors did not understand because I would feint doing to peepee dnace and my coworker could testify to the enourmous amount of water I always drank.

Electgrolytes are not just lost via burning them. They are lost as part of sweat, hence it is salty, and must be periodically replaced anytime you do much sweating. Most are fine with mostly water and ocassional gatorade, though there are other sources. A hint that you need electrolytes is that when you drink gatorade it actually tastes sweet not kind of sweet cause you can also taste a little of the salt too. But this is just a hint, it works for some not others. Some eat enough salty food and snacks that they don't need any other way to get electrolytes. Point is be aware watch and know your body and if you sweat know you need water first and some electrolytes at some point.
