Ok soooooo beig a new player, I've seen many people mention something called 'The Long Night'.

Is this a term to describe the time between gatherings or is this something specific to this time of year? As usual if this is a FOIP answer then I guess I shall have to find out  Roll Eyes

October being Halloween and all,  Shadowmoor experiences a different brand of adventure more than what is normal.   That change you will FOIP.

The mechanics of Halloween are common knowledge and will be announced at the start of the event. From the start of Halloween (Friday night of the October event) until it ends (generally at some point Sunday of the October event, Plot will announce it) the entirety or Amroth is in perpetual twilight.

It is said that if true night falls in this time, Amroth will also fall.

Halloween, The Longest Night, The Darkest Hour, Time of Despair, Night of Undeath, and other epithets mark this event and it is seen as one of the most auspicious times to cast Dark Magic, Necromancy, find omens, cast curses, and, of course, see both undead and trapped spirits.

Trapped Spirits are special to Amroth. When final death comes to an individual, their spirits generally moves on. There are exceptions. Sometimes a person’s death is so tragic or traumatic that it traps their spirit in the moments of their death. Sometimes they require assistance to complete unfinished business. Oaths sometimes catch people and must be fulfilled. If final death was caused by a necromantic act, the soul may remain chained to this world instead of finding immediate oblivion, even if the undead vessel is destroyed.

It is rumored that there are rituals that will bind a spirit to their place of death, often as punishment and warnings to others.

Trapped spirits are not a form of undead, but are discorporeal  representations of once living beings. Trapped Spirits do not interact with the living, and the living generally can not interact with Trapped Spirits.  (Trapped Spirits are represented by a red band tied to the NPC's  Arm.)

Just out of curiosity: since I play a gnome, will I not lose body during the day like usual? Smiley I'm totally okay with this.

the red bands do  make a wonderful show and I implore anyone that actually wants to see the backstory of the game to watch the red bands.  You learn a lot.
