Hello eveyone! I have a few Qusetions since I am a newb at Shadowmoor.

1. my friend really wants to be a Faerie and it's a resticted race, I looked at the rulebook and it said that newbs can be resticted races How?
2. My friends mom is the one who is taking us and she said that we can't battle, What else can we do then?
3. For going there for a first timer do me and my friends show up and say that we want to play?
4. I read somehwere that PBJ and water are free for food is this correct?
If anyone can please answer these questions that would be a big help, I know that the next shadowmoor event is this weeked and I do apologize for these questions for being so late.

P.S.  My username is actually Allyson NOT allsyon I was typing to fast and didn't check over my account info when i was singing up. ^_^

1) Honestly. I would recommend rolling Human at first. Then you can reroll as a Faerie (with permission of course) on your 3rd Event.

2) I'm not sure what else you can do other than watch as a lot of Solar involves combat. What is the main reason behind the not battling? It's pretty safe and rarely does anyone get hurt (excluding the occasional accidental groin shot)

3) Yes, you will need to talk to Becca to get signed up and then just about anyone can help you get going from there.

4) Yes. Just be reasonable and tidy. You can also work a shift in the Tavern for a Free Meal as well I believe

I know that's probably not too awful helpful, sorry.

Hi Allyson!

I corrected your name for you;-)

1. Humans are the easiest race to start with, but your friend can play a fairy. She needs to have acceptable costuming and I'll need to talk to her to make sure she understands how fairies need to be role-played. You do get one free respend within your first three events, so if she starts as a human, we can change her over to fairy if she wants to play her first event as a fairy.

2. If you are not allowed to participate in combat, you can play orange headbanded. This means you can roleplay all you want, but if someone wishes to kill you. they can just walk up to you and say "I'm going to kill you, killing blow one, killing bow two, killing blow three." At this point you go immediatly to dead status. You can not run from monsters, help heal people, or do anything to effect combat.  You will be able to roleplay as your character and the game isn't all combat, so you can have fun, you would just have more fun if you participate in combat.

We do have some very stringent safety rules, all weapons mst be padded, swings can not be more than 40 degrees, and you can't swing hard. We don't have injuries from combat, but we have had sprained ankles and the like from people running around. Again, we are very strict about combat safety. Before you go into play, you will go through a short oreintation course that goes over how to play the game and how to fight safely. I would encourage your friends mother to sit in on the safety course and talk to other players before she makes the final decision on wether you can fight.

3. If you are over 13, under the age of 17 must be accompanied be a parent or legal guardian AT ALL TIMES while on site.  Your friends mother would be fine, but I'll need a note from your parent allowing that. You will also need a signed legal release. If your parent isn't bringing you to site, let me know and I'll send you a copy of the legal release.

If you don't have costumes, we have some costumes for sale, and there are other players that make custom costuming. Or post here and we can help you come up with some pretty cheap costume ideas.

4. Pb&j are available for free, as is lemon-aid and water.  You may want to bring some money for a hot meal, a full Sat night dinner runs $7.50 I think.  As Steven said, you can work in the tavern and get free food. (Our tavern ladies make awesome good eats!)

If you or your parents have any further questions, please let me know! I hope to see you Friday, I think you'll have a lot of fun!

Just because you've never seen a merchant swing a weapon doesn't mean they're non-combat. Not sayin, just sayin

Come to think of it...I don't think I've met all that many merchants who -didn't- swing a weapon at least on occasion...including one whose cabin-mate thought he'd be an easy target.  *snicker*

Just because they can't fight, doesn't mean their friend who's getting a portion of the profits or is a mithril golem can't be on hand to deal with customer service issues.
