Didn't mean to make you feel dumb at all. It's a common question that we get every few months, and I know our players... if we don't answer the questions completely, they'll look for new and creative ways to kill their friends! Which, of course, is a perfectly acceptable in-game thing, but we do try to keep everything fair and safe.

Seriously, come on out, you'll have a great time and we'd love to meet you.

Keith (He's the owner) speaks the truth.  Most players at some point think up a crazy weapon idea they think should work/would be the coolest thing ever, wonder why it won't work.  Get frustrated, grumble, then move on.

The 3 most solid forms of weapons combat are Swordsword/Shortsword, Sword and Board, and Spear.  (All excellent choices)

The 3 most illegal combos are Shield+Shield,  Spear+ anything, Dual wielding 2 handed weapons/polearms. (All going to get someone hurt irritated and not allowed for various reasons).

Oh and no Spartans, they were race capped at 300.*

*This last line is a jest, and in no way official, but please, no Spartans.

lol, Jeff..

I second the no spartans thing ;-)

Hey Fearm -

As another (somewhat) newbie, I'll vouch that you really need to try the game to really get the hang of it. My first larp experience was driving by a park with a friend and seeing a bunch of guys dressed as romans and barbarians hitting each other and calling colors. After watching and talking trash with my friend for about 20 minutes, we came to the conclusion of "well.. I guess in order to really get what's going on, you just gotta go out and try it.." and so we did, and here it is about 2 years later and I've played a handful of larps, and while I've only attended a handful of Solar events, the player community at Shadowmoor is absolutely one of the best (and while it's hard to interpret the tone of text - I promise you that no one will reply to your questions with the intention of "pwning teh noobz")

I wouldn't keep traveling from Va Beach on a somewhat monthly basis and take days off from work if that wasn't the case Smiley

They wouldn't let you do that?  You have throwing weapons strapped to (nearly) every part of your body.  But not to your weapon?  Ha ha!  Hey by the way I grew up in Kingsport TN, so that's cool you're from Oak Ridge.

But seriously I've met a number people who have really great ideas about how to make neat looking weapons that still meet the safety rules.  Dave Schumpert, the guy who introduced me and my husband to Solar, makes really cool and unique looking weapons.  He might be a good guy to talk to.  (He and I live in Columbia).  I'm a noob myself, and everyone has been really awesome and nice to me, so don't sweat it.   Grin
