Back in middle of September I found a roommate off of Craigslist.com.  He seemed very nice and normal, he was gay and weighed about 450 lbs but I didn't care about that.  He gave me ½ months rent for the first two weeks and we got along just great!  So I thought “Wonderful, money troubles are over..”

Well..  October rent came due no money... said would pay it middle of the month with the utilities.  I wasn't hurting for cash, so I said no big deal.  Mean time, a whole shit load of drama starts up... crying about how in love his is with some 18 year old boy, he is 32.  A tire blew out.. along with a whole bunch of other crap.  The 15th came and went... roommate said end of the month... Now I'm pissed off but said fine.

October 26th the roommate gets fired...  I'm even more pissed off and say “you gotz to GO!”  Well that is when the trouble really started!

Long story short..   He threatens squatters rights on my home, says it will take months to get him out of my house..  in the mean time he picks my house clean of anything he can pick up and pawn, including my digital camera (sorry, no more pictures from me), $170.00 in cash, booze and wine, a spare TV, my chain saw, circular saw, portable generator...  AND stole my identity, opened 2 credit cards in my name, hit my bank account for $1500.00 and Visa for $750.00, changed my mailing address to the boy toys address in SC and oh yea.. later to find out from a 3rd party he thought about KILLING ME so I couldn't testify against him in court.

And why did he do all of this.. apparently to keep his 18 year old hopped up on cocain because he was affectionate while high.

There are some details I left out to keep this from being a short novel...   His family his behind me 100% and so are some friends he stole from in Asheville.  Before I knew he had cleaned out the shed and the home office, I did file an arrest warrant for petty larceny and he was arrested for it.  He made bail and now is on the lamb.

Needless to say my world has been tossed upside down.   I really don't know how I will be able to trust people every again..  I have nightmares about him..  I hear car doors slam in the middle of the night and panic thinking “Did I lock the doors?” and I'm scared even walking into my home thinking what if he broke in while I was gone.  So now I choose to struggle with my bills and to live alone.  I feel so violated and never wish this feeling on anyone.

I have filed reports for the mail fraud (Federal crime = Federal time), larceny and identity theft.  Please don't send me a lot of “you should have done”.  I already feel so stupid, I don't need salt in my wounds...   I just wanted to share.

Thank you sugar!   I'm ok on the money end.  My bank put the money back and so did Visa... just sucks he got the cash.   And there isn't much anyone can do for my irrational fears and nightmares.

Just send me good thoughts!

Love you all!

Work with the prosecutor, get him thrown in jail for a long, long time.

For future reference for everyone , anyone claiming "squatter's rights" generally doesn't know what they're talking about.  There is such a thing, but the legal term is adverse possession and you have to sucessfully meet all of the elements for a period of years for it to have any legally binding impact.  The time period varies from state to state, but in most states it's 20 years.

Mitzi, we all love you. I'm sorry to hear you're going through so much crazy crap. I hope things get better soon, and I hope you nail that guy to the wall when you get a hold of em.

Damn, and I thought I had had roommate issues.  I am with you on the living by yourself bit.  I was fortunate to get a place that I knew I could cover by myself should I need to with a second bedroom for my roommate.  Now that he's gone (and still experiencing financial issues), I find that my home has a bit more peace to it.  If you are afraid of being home alone at night, I recommend you look into something that will help you feel secure.  It takes a while to get a hand gun and less time to get a shotgun, but a sledge hammer is probably the cheapest and easiest to use.  You can throw it like an axe with same deadly effect and should be able to get enough accuracy to nail someone at the end of your hallway with just a little practice.  Even if you do miss them, the target has now crapped themselves and making their way out of your home.

I don't think he'll return.  He has already stolen what he can get away with, and has been reported to the police.  His motive for harming you to keep you silent isn't going to work since you are no longer silent.  Also, I would have the 18 year old sought out as he is the one most likely to make a mistake and be picked up.  You get him, and your 450 lb. problem will show up shortly after.

Having worked on that side of the bench (I was a police officer for a while) I can say that this is a good idea.  Also, if he even tries that you can go to the city/county Magistrate's office and file an eviction notice on him  Cheesy    If you are concerned about this guy showing back up at YOUR place, go to your local police department and ask them to place your home on security check.  Doing this will ensure that the police will routinely check to make sure your home is secure and safe with nothing out of the ordinary.

If you are afraid of being home alone at night, I recommend you look into something that will help you feel secure.  It takes a while to get a hand gun and less time to get a shotgun,

If  you do decide to arm yourself, make sure you know how to use said weapon as using one without the knowledge of how to do so can be just as dangerous to yourself as someone else.

Hope that helps  Cheesy

Oh once the post office gets a hold of him... he will go away for a very very long time, longer than the larceny and possibly longer than the ID theft!  They do not play when it comes to stuff like this!   Both the ID theft and mail fraud are Federal Crimes!

For future reference for everyone , anyone claiming "squatter's rights" generally doesn't know what they're talking about.  There is such a thing, but the legal term is adverse possession and you have to successfully meet all of the elements for a period of years for it to have any legally binding impact.  The time period varies from state to state, but in most states it's 20 years.

That I did find out after a little research, but it still raised the hairs on the back of my neck at first...  Don't mess with my property man! Like I said, I've lefet out a lot of details.

I'm not looking to arm myself (though I am a good shot on the range.  I can shot a hole big enough ya could throw a dog through!) and I'm not throwing axes in the house.  My luck I would take out one of my cats!  I know my fears are irrational and I'm slowly getting over them.  The nightmares have seem to stopped... that helps so much!   I just keep the doors locked and check them every now and then...

I've named the 18 year old as an accomplice in all reports.  And right now it's just trying to get any of the police/detectives to freaking call or email me back!  Angry

He's got really no where to go because his family wants nothing to do with him now.  His mom is telling everyone she can think of and then some what is going on so he will have no place to go... he told someone that he was thinking of going to FL., thinking FL does not extradite but he's wrong.  For federal crimes the do!  There is a special place in hell for this guy...  and he's going there on the express pass!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes, they make me feel warm and very loved!
I love you all so much!

I would almost say that you should have the guy's mother leave one open avenue of help.  That way you'll know where to find him and the police can pick him up there.
